Recently, I was standing online, waiting to go to confession. The guy in front of me left the confession room and closed the door behind him. Unbeknownst to him, the door to the confession room locked as he closed it. So as I put my hand on the door handle to open it the door would not open for me. The priest on the inside heard the noise that I was making rattling the door handle, and so the priest came to unlock the door to let me in.
Once inside, I told the priest that I appreciated that God had a sense of humor in temporarily locking me out of the confession room!
After I had completed my confession, I went outside into the church to pray. Later the Holy Spirit pointed out to me two things:
- that I had needed help that day from someone else to get closer to God‘s grace. And the priest was that person at that moment.
- that God may chastise us for a while, but His Mercy is not far away in time or distance. His Mercy endures forever!
What a very lovely reminder that sometimes we need other good people in our lives to help us get closer to the grace of God.
May we be more and more willing each day to be a person who can help someone else get closer to God‘s graces!
