Mission
Our MISSION is to:
- BRING baptism in the Holy Spirit to the whole Church
- BUILD unity in the Body of Christ
- SERVE the Poor
Our mission is inspired by the CHARIS Commission to BRING.BUILD.SERVE. which was issued by Pope Francis at the 2019 launch of CHARIS. CHARIS is a service organization of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal with juridical personality under the Dicastery for Family, Laity, and Life.
The theological and pastoral understanding of our threefold mission was initially discussed in the first three Malines Documents, which were the first pastoral and theological documents of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. The writing of the documents was commissioned by Cardinal Suenens in the 1970s and reviewed by theologians including Joseph Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI.
In our mission, we embrace and support the National Conference of Catholic Bishops in the United States 1997 Statement:
“It is our conviction that baptism in the Holy Spirit, understood as the reawakening in Christian experience of the presence and action of the Holy Spirit given in Christian initiation, and manifested in a broad range of charisms, including those closely associated with the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, is part of the normal Christian life.”
Origins
The Catholic Charismatic Renewal has reached over 160 million Catholics throughout the world. The first structures formed within the Catholic Charismatic Renewal were called “service committees,” and Pentecost Today USA (NSC) was the first of these service committees.
Founding members began working together soon after the 1967 Duquesne Weekend at The Ark and The Dove in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, which many see as the birthplace of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. Pentecost Today USA (NSC) was officially formed in 1970 and incorporated in 1971 and has headquarters at The Ark and The Dove.
