Why Become a Fire Starter?

Beloved visitor,

We are writing to you, as a cherished leader and generous supporter, with a passionate sense of mission to extend the grace of baptism in the Holy Spirit to future generations.

For over fifty years, Pentecost Today USA (formerly known as the National Service Committee) has been blessed with faithful supporters like you who, through an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, have transformed the lives of many people in need of spiritual renewal in our parishes and communities across the nation. As the Spirit invites us, you have gone forth boldly to foster this dynamic grace in your family, at work, and in service to the Church.

Today, we find our communities in deep crisis, nationwide. The global pandemic, coupled with cultural and social movements, has disrupted daily life and created division, isolation and a loss of hope. These events have even assaulted the blessing of home and family and the vibrancy of parish life. Our faith is being challenged in every way and many people have lost hope and left the Church. It is in moments like these that the Father abundantly pours out His love in a life-transforming way by the Holy Spirit, like the spark that lit the hearts and minds of early believers at the first Pentecost.

Now, more than ever, Pentecost Today USA must continue to share the illuminating spark to those longing for the Lord’s peace and to encounter the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. There is an urgency for us to extend the current of grace that we have received, one that radically transformed our lives, and become intentional disciples of Jesus Christ empowered by the Holy Spirit to use the charisms so that the Lord touches hearts and illuminates minds to awaken and renew us in Christ Jesus.

In response, we have embraced the Vatican’s CHARIS commission to BRING baptism in the Holy Spirit to the whole Church, BUILD unity in the Body of Christ, and SERVE the poor – a widening of our tent pegs in the face of today’s challenges with a focus on generations to come. THE JOSHUA PROJECT is an example of this expansion see here!

Executive Director of Pentecost Today USA (the NSC)
