Archbishop Robert J Carlson

Episcopal Consultant

Archbishop Robert J Carlson is a native of Minneapolis, MN. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1970. He earned a Master of Divinity from St. Paul Seminary in 1976 and a Licentiate of Canon Law from Catholic University of America in 1979.

He was ordained as an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis in1984. In 1995 he was made Bishop of Sioux Falls, SD. In 2004, he was made Bishop of Saginaw, MI. On April 21, 2009 he was named the Archbisop of Saint Louis.

Archbishop Carlson has served as past president of the National Foundation for Catholic Youth Ministry, past chair of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Vocations and its Ad Hoc Committee on Youth, and a member of its Committee on Laity. Currently he is Episcopal Advisor for the Cursillo Movement/Region VI and one of the NSC’s two Episcopal Consultants.
